HANDS TO WORK is a project designed to encourage people to make their own everyday objects. Building the 'Hands to Work' chair teaches basic tool skills and inspires personal agency. The design is based on the historical chairs of the shaker movement-seminal in the history of American Design. One of the leaders of the shaker movement, Mother Ann Lee Famously said “put your hands to work and your hearts to God.” Making things is meaningful, the Shakers knew this. When we set our hands to simple productive work we access a homegrown tradition of building and invention.
The HANDS TO WORK Poster, has dimensions of wood, detailed instructions and a description of the project.
